First Octave 4.4.1 release candidate available for ftp

John W. Eaton
Administrator
The first release candidate for the 4.4.1 bug-fixing release is now
available from ftp.alpha.org in the directory gnu/octave:

   -rw-r--r-- 1 3003 3002 25583761 Jul 13 19:26 octave-4.4.1-rc1.tar.bz2
   -rw-r--r-- 1 3003 3002 19161651 Jul 13 19:26 octave-4.4.1-rc1.tar.lz

Once they are built, I'll make Windows installer files available in the
same directory.

I think you meant ftp://alpa.gnu.org/

Oops, yes.  The URL

   https://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/octave/

will also work if you want to use something more modern and hip than ftp.

Just did a build on Linux Mint 18.3 (very vanilla).  No problems and
running 'make check' shows

Summary:

  PASS                            14910
  FAIL                                0
  XFAIL (reported bug)               34
  SKIP (missing feature)            138
  SKIP (run-time condition)          12

Looks good on macOS 10.13.6. Build (without Qt) succeeds, and tests pass.

Summary:

  PASS                            14867
  FAIL                                1
  XFAIL (reported bug)               55
  SKIP (missing feature)            141
  SKIP (run-time condition)          29

The FAIL is the tar test, which is a known issue:

There is a problem in building the documentation on cygwin 64bit

   MAKEINFO doc/interpreter/octave.html/.octave-html-stamp
/usr/bin/texi2dvi: TeX neither supports -recorder nor outputs \openout
lines in its log file
make[2]: *** [Makefile:28003: doc/liboctave/liboctave.dvi] Error 1
make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
/usr/bin/texi2dvi: TeX neither supports -recorder nor outputs \openout
lines in its log file
make[2]: *** [Makefile:27891: doc/interpreter/octave.dvi] Error 1

Is it something changed from 4.4.0 release ?

  $ texi2dvi --version
texi2dvi (GNU Texinfo 6.5) 7906

Regards
Marco

By any chance are you running parallel make? Do you get the same error
if you do a serial make? Could you post output of "make V=1" ?

Fedora 28 has the same version of texi2dvi so the problem must be somewhere else.

Dmitri.

Can we still expect Windows installer files for this release candidate? Or will there be a rc2 soon anyway?

Sorry I didn't put the Windows files on alpha.gnu.org.  There will
probably be a second release candidate, so I will try to make Windows
installer files available for it.
