Intall package 1.4.0 fails

Michel
Hello,

The statistics-1.4.0.tar.gz and signal-1.4.0.tar.gz are downloaded on the
desktop.

The Octave version is 4.4.0 and the Win one is 7

Package Name         | Version | Installation directory
 -------------------+---------+-----------------------
                 signal *|   1.3.2 |
C:\Octave\OCTAVE~1.0\share\octave\packages\signal-1.3.2
            statistics *|   1.3.0 |
C:\Octave\OCTAVE~1.0\share\octave\packages\statistics-1.3.0

Some functions are missing in release 1.3 but not in release 1.4.0.

I read some FAQs and messages.
I tried lot of ways to install the new packages 1.4 but that fails.
I have not still understood how install an additional package.

For example, the last attempt, I taped:

>> cd('C:\Octave\OCTAVE~1.0\share\octave\4.4.0\m\')
>> ls
>> pkg load signal-1.4.0

I get:
error: package signal-1.4.0 is not installed
error: called from
    load_packages at line 41 column 7
pkg at line 457 column 7

I placed  package signal-1.4.0.tar.gz in
C:/Octave/OCTAVE~1.0/share/octave/4.4.0/m

>> pkg install statistics-1.4.0.tar.gz
invalid call to script C:\Users\rixain\Documents\My
Documents\Matlab\perso\stat.m
error: called from
unpack at line 233 column 5
untar at line 47 column 5
install at line 81 column 9
pkg at line 437 column 9

I don't know what do more....
Do you know?

Regards,

Michel

After you've downloaded signal-1.4.0.tar.gz,
you should open GNU Octave and "cd" to that directory so that the file
is shown with "ls".

Then (in Octave):
pkg install signal-1.4.0.tar.gz

See here that this command works on the tar.gz archive, the parameter is
the filename you've downloaded.

Then after the installation
pkg load signal

(without version. This is the package name, not the filename)

Hello Andy,

       Thank you for your email.

'ls' doesn't deliver any information. The filename list is expected but no
answer. Look at below the example
>> ls
>> ls perl
>> ls *.*
>> ls *.m
>> ls *.*
As you can see, no answer...despite in the directory, many files.m are
present.

something fails but what?

Michel

Maybe you should try to do it as Andreas wrote:
Download the file

signal-1.4.0.tar.gz

Then switch to the directory where you have downloaded it.
Check with "ls" if you are in the right directory and
signal-1.4.0.tar.gz appears in the list.

  Then continue with:

Then (in Octave):
pkg install signal-1.4.0.tar.gz

and the rest

>>> pkg install -forge statistics

Re: Intall package 1.4.0 fails

Sorry but I advise to you to read above. I already did but that still fails.
Moreover, 'ls' does not deliver any answer. I suppose that 'ls' is for Linux
while 'dir' is for Win7.
The command 'dir' delivers the filename I search.

In addition, on the site I see the command pkg install -forge package_name.
So, I launched
pkg install -forge signal  for the same result....

They are a folder signal 1.3 which is installed. Maybe, I should suppressed
it....I am not sure.

The command you showed above was

pkg install signal

but you need to write the complete filename for installing

Michel is plagued by the somewhat pedantic habit of Windows to hide file
extensions by default. So he just doesn't know that the file "signal-1.4.0"
in reality is called "signal-1.4.0.tar.gz".
Although I would call this basic Windows proficiency.

And as a regular Windows user this is still one of  the default windows settings that boggles my mind. Still the first thing I change in anyone's Windows Explorer settings.  A known security vector since the Anna Kournikova virus fooled everyone into opening something like Anna.jpg.exe thinking it was just Anna.jpg.

Pablo:  please follow the instructions appropriate to your version of windows at the link below:
