Issues installing Octave on Windows 10

mikaelmv
Hello,

I am happy Octave user on my personal Mac.

I have tried to install the same on my corporate laptop and I am running
issues.

The laptop runs on Windows 10 (64) and these are the steps I am taking.

1. Checked on Java:

<http://octave.1599824.n4.nabble.com/file/t373370/image565.png>

2: I downloaded the executable for Octave:

<http://octave.1599824.n4.nabble.com/file/t373370/installer.png>

3. Upon completion (no warning messages), I am unable to open the program
from any of the launching icons (GNU and CLI). In fact I get the message:

<http://octave.1599824.n4.nabble.com/file/t373370/image-2.png>

Could you help me on how to move on?

Should an alternative be to download the zip file? How to install and run
the program from the zip file then?

Thank you very much!

Using regedit, do you have any settings in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings ?

For java, you need the 64 bit java to use java in the 64 bit octave

-------------------

Yeah - the version of java has nothing to do with successful installation - only whether it can use java when using octave

Something is preventing the use of wscript - whether that is your virus software or policy permissions

Hi Nicholas,

Thank you.

I followed the instructions, I added the "--no-gui" suffix to the target field of VBScript launching file and unfortunately still getting same error message.

error.png

I even extracted the zip file in a local folder, outside of C, just in case that directory could have been a problem.

I regularly use the zip archive without issue.  you can find the
instructions here:

That message suggests a permissions or security error. Are you able to execute other vbs files? Have you tried 'Run As Administrator"

It unfortunately sounds like a permissions/policy issue on your computer - either virus checker or admin settings that are preventing vbs scripts from running
