No more mail notification from savannah?

mmuetzel
In the past, I received an email each time a bug changed that I'm subscribed to (e.g. when someone added a new comment).
Since yesterday, I no longer receive these email notifications.

I still receive the digests.

Is someone else seeing the same? Or is it something on my side?

Is the failure consistent?

It's working for me most of the time, though in the past I have
occasionally noticed comments in the tracker that I did not see in
email.  I'm not sure what's causing that problem.  As savannah users we
don't have control over it or a way to fix it.  We will need help from
the savannah sysadmins.

Not consistent. I just got a notification email now. So I don't know
what's up.

I contacted GMX and they claim that everything looks perfectly fine from their side. They'd need the bounced message to check what might be going on.
Does anyone know where these notifications would bounce back to?

@Torsten: How did you resolve the trouble with your freenet.de mail address?

Thanks for your help

Well, not a real solution. This was at a time when I had already decided
to move to anoher mail provider.

I also miss notifications. I first noticed on 27.May. For example
#bug55225 comment #47 and #48 are missing. None of them is in the gmx
junk folder. @Markus did you receive these two notifications?

The mail from bug #57591 / 3.June is also missing here.

Those two notifications for bug #55225 didn't reach me either.
So it very much looks like something has changed in the way notification messages from savannah to GMX are delivered or processed...

In the meantime, I wrote to [hidden email] and asked if they knew where to get the bounce message from the mailer daemon. I'm not sure if that is the right place to ask for that kind of enquiry.
Let's see if I'll get an answer (and - in case they do answer - if that answer will ever reach me...)

If it's any help in pursuing this, savannah bug notifications are
sometimes dropped from even the octave-bug-tracker mailing list.

You can try cross referencing your missing notifications with the list
archives: https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/octave-bug-tracker

unsure if related, but within the past month or so I've noticed significant delays with some bug notification emails. I was getting some emails many hours, even a day or two, later, and a couple times they were out of order.  I always assume it's my asme.org alias that has had a recent history of lousy performance for almost every form of relaying I ask of it. But maybe it's a related issue?  Were there any recent Sender AUTH changes (DMARC, SPF, etc.?)

I consistently don't receive any notifications starting somewhen on Tuesday June 2nd.
Notifications being dropped sporadically (also reported by others) is probably a different issue.

Anyway, thanks for the link to the list.
I didn't think of browsing that in the meantime. That is definitely more convenient than checking the bug reports every once in a while.

Markus,

looks the same here. somehow strange that gmx in particular is affected.

Date,Received,Archived,Loss [%]
05/26/20 24 24 0
05/27/20 32 34 6
05/28/20 10 10 0
05/29/20 16 16 0
05/30/20 7 7 0
05/31/20 16 16 0
06/01/20 21 21 0
06/02/20 11 16 31
06/03/20 17 25 32
06/04/20 11 14 21
06/05/20 5 8 38

let's see if savannah answers your mail. then i will also write to gmx.

best regards

In the meantime, I got a response from savannah support. And with the help of the message Dmitri sent (thanks for that), they could find the relevant part of their logs:
> Jun  3 10:58:07 frontend1 postfix/cleanup[32065]: DD8F920DA8: message-id=<[hidden email]>
> Jun  3 10:58:09 frontend1 postfix/smtp[32068]: DD8F920DA8: to=<[hidden email]>, relay=mx01.emig.gmx.net[212.227.17.5]:25, delay=1.8, delays=0.05/0.03/1.1/0.55, dsn=5.0.0, status=bounced (host mx01.emig.gmx.net[212.227.17.5] said: 554-Transaction failed 554-Reject due to policy restrictions. 554 For explanation visit https://www.gmx.net/mail/senderguidelines?ip=209.51.188.72&c=hi (in reply to end of DATA command))

I contacted GMX support with that information. Their support staff informed me about recent changes on their side to enforce stricter compliance of mail headers to "their rules" to reduce the number of spam.
But unfortunately, he couldn't tell me for which exact reason this message was blocked. He told me that the staff at their "postmaster" would be able to.

The GMX support staff asked me to go back to savannah support and asked them to file a black listing issue with GMX postmaster:
https://postmaster.gmx.net/en/blacklisting

Even if that contact form is for the opposite way (mails from GMX being blocked by other servers), the support staff assured that it is the correct way to contact them for this kind of error as well. Let's hope, he is right.

So this is the current state: Savannah support members offered to get in direct contact with GMX and I asked them to do this via GMX's contact form.

Let's hope both parties will be able to figure out who needs to change what to resolve the current issue.

I'm hoping that resolving this for me will also resolve it for you. The service charges for their FreeMail customers are ridiculously high. Fortunately, my contract allows me to get free support.

Best,
Markus

After some forth and back, I finally got a response from GMX's postmaster team:
They say the notification mails are blocked by their system because the "From", "To", and "Sender" fields in the mail header are not correctly encoded (according to RFC 2047 [1]).

Savannah admins are checking if they can change that.
