Octave Instalation

We are trying to install Octave on an Alpha running Red Hat Linux version 4.0.
Configure ran fine. Then, during the make process, it aborted saying NAN
undefined. We temporary fixed this by including a line:
#include <nan.h>
in <math.h>
The make then proceeded to the point where the octave executable was being
created by linking all the libraries, where it again aborted issuing the
following errors:
