binary install

Jay Scott Goldstein

Hello.  I have downloaded the binary octave file
from sunsite, and when I try to execute
        sh ./doinstall.sh
it tells me that
doinstall.sh: unable to extract version number from Octave!

Any help would be appreciated.  I am running Slackware
Linux on a 486 machine.

Regards,
Scott

That must be an old binary distribution for version 1.1.1.  I'd
recommend starting with the binary distribution for 2.0.5 that's
available from ftp.che.wisc.edu in /pub/octave/BINARIES.
