problems in installing octave-2.0.14

Yolanda Ordo~ez
        Hi there!

I've been trying to install octave, and for now I'm desesperated.
The system is a sparc-sun-solaris2.6
I've installed the GNU make 3.77, gcc 2.8.1 and the libstdc++ 2.8.1
cause the versions in the system were quite old.

It's seen it hasn't any problem in configure, but crashed (after a
long time) in the make.

First I tried simple "make". But I also tried to compile without
debugging symbols (make CFLAGS=-O CXXFLAGS=-O
LDFLAGS=)

I will apreciated any help.

The error output was:

Please post what options you used with configure, it may be important.

I'm afraid this is not very helpful either.  Does the file ../liboctave/
liboctave.a exist?  Were there any other errors before this, especially
in the building of liboctave? You can direct the output of make to a file
and check at the end of the build.

In ksh, this should work: make > make.log 2>&1
In csh/tcsh: make >& make.log

In another window you can monitor the progress using "tail -f make.log"

If I remember correctly about some notes from 'teTeX' the problem may
be 'make-3.77' on some systems like Sun using SunOS or Solaris.  On
these systems make-3.77 needs to be fixed or simply use 'make-3.76.1'.

Hope this helps and it may be simpler than watching lots of messages
from make.

Bye
Thomas

I also check the logs from make, and the liboctave. It's never too
late to learn some stuff, so thanks to Himanshu Gohel.

See ya!
          Hasta pronto!
